BEEF POT PIES/ MEATPIE
I woke up and thought to myself what am I doing today?? Ive been trying different baking styles and techniques lately so this was a perfect day to try a recipe I’ve had in my head. I went straight to the kitchen, checked the fridge and Yay!!! I had minced beef there.
Just a lil more ingredients and the recipe was complete. Today na today I must try this recipe that’s been screaming in my head. Lol
I’m excited to share this recipe because I love meatpie(if you know you know....lol) and I wanted to see other ways one can enjoy eating delicious meat pies but not our regular naija style. These are called BEEF POT PIES.
INGREDIENTS:
For the filling
- Vegetable oil
- Minced beef
- Diced sweet potatoes( cause I prefer sweet potatoes)
- Diced carrots
- Onions
- Scotch bonnet
- Curry and thyme
- Adobo seasonings
- Corn flour slurry
- Salt
PREP TIME: 10mins COOK TIME: 30mins
For the dough- 500g flour
- 200g butter(preferably cold)
- Salt
- 1 cup Cold water
- Eggs
PREP TIME:45mins COOK TIME: 25mins
METHOD;
How to make the pot pie/meatpie fillin
- Heat up a pan and pour in vegetable oil
- Add onions and minced beef and scotch bonnet (let it cook for 2 mins)
- Add in the sweet potatoes, stir well and then add the carrots.
- Add curry, thyme and adobo seasonings
- Let it cook for another 5 mins before adding the corn flour slurry ( this will thicken the beef filling)
- Lower the heat, cover and let it simmer for about 30 mins
- And it’s ready!
To make the dough;
- Pour flour in a bowl, add butter and salt, then mix with fingers or spatula( I used my finger)
- When the flour has absorbed the butter, then add water and continue to mix till it comes together to form a ball.
- Cover and let it sit for 30mins
After 30mins...
- Prepare work surface, sprinkle some flour and then place the dough on the surface
- Knead with your finger taking it from back to front to fill Up every space between the dough.

- When it has gotten that round shape, you then roll out on
- the surface(sprinkle some flour to prevent sticking)
- The dough shouldn’t be too thick or thin. Just thick enough so the filling won’t bust out
- Then cut in circle, put circles in greased pan(butter) put in some filling
- Cut out some dough in stripes to use in layering the pie, use water on the edges to seal it
- Brush with egg wash and bake at 350F for 20-25 mins
